AI-assisted staff allocation in appliance assembly

Across several assembly lines, staff had to be allocated every morning so that throughput stayed balanced despite fluctuating absences. The plant manager steered his crew with pride, based on his personal knowledge of individual strengths.

We built a lean web application with an AI-assisted optimization assistant. It evaluates historical line speeds and the current qualification matrix and proposes a morning staffing plan. Crucially: through the interface, the plant manager can override any recommendation with a single click — his intuition remains the final authority.

The morning allocation shrank from around 45 minutes of hectic reshuffling to under three minutes. The lines are balanced immediately, and human leadership responsibility is fully preserved.
